Raspberry Pi
Install the Wunderframe player on a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5, pair it, and keep it up to date.
A Raspberry Pi is a small, cheap computer that fits behind a screen. The Wunderframe player for the Pi starts straight into the program with no desktop around it, plays video and TV channels with the Pi’s hardware decoder, and is looked after from Devices like every other screen.
What you need
- A Raspberry Pi 4 (2 GB or more) or a Raspberry Pi 5, one per screen or wall panel, each driving one screen at up to 1080p.
- Raspberry Pi OS Lite, 64-bit, freshly installed, with SSH on.
- A good SD card or, better, a USB SSD: the offline cache writes to it.
- A network cable.
- The player file (
wunderframe-pi) and the installer (install-pi.sh) from your Wunderframe contact.
A Pi 3 or Zero 2 is too small for the player: open the stage’s player link in Chromium in kiosk mode instead.
Install it
Copy the files to the Pi
From a laptop on the same network, copy both files to the Pi’s home folder.
Run the installer
It installs what the player needs, creates a user for it, and makes the Pi start into the player at boot. It takes a few minutes.
Pair it
The screen shows a pairing code. Enter it under Venue → Stages → Pair a screen.
scp wunderframe-pi install-pi.sh pi@<pi-address>:
ssh pi@<pi-address> sudo ./install-pi.shOptions for the installer:
--link <player link>pairs by link instead of a code.--with-monitoradds what Watch live needs (it is larger).--server <address>is only for developers; without it the Pi uses www.wunderframe.com.
Looking after it
A paired Pi is a screen like any other: its settings, power schedule, screenshots, logs, restart and reboot are on Devices. The player inside updates itself like on every screen.
For IT, on the Pi itself:
wunderframe-pi doctor # what is installed, and how every window starts
wunderframe-pi status # the pairing
journalctl -u wunderframe-player -f # the log
sudo ./install-pi.sh --update --binary ./wunderframe-pi # a new player versionSettings for the Pi itself live in /etc/wunderframe/player.env; restart with sudo systemctl restart wunderframe-player after a change. If video covers the whole screen or the text above a video is missing, set WF_LAYERING=single there: the Pi then draws everything in one layer.
Updates
The player inside updates itself. A new version of the Pi player file is installed with install-pi.sh --update, which keeps the previous version beside it. Update the app on Devices does not reach a Pi yet.
