Demo from a laptop

Run a demo from a laptop

Open the real player on a laptop with the operator strip — camera, calibration, the camera's view, steering and a presence simulator — and rehearse a visitor without a camera.

For a demo, run the real player — exactly what a screen runs — on a laptop, or on the big screen it drives. Everything a visitor will see is there: the loop, the gesture guide, sessions, details and Moments.

Open for demo

On Venue → Stages, press Open for demo beside the stage's player link. The player opens in a new tab with the operator strip showing; click once to go fullscreen. The player link itself is not changed. While the tab is open it counts as one of the stage's screens.

To show the stage to someone who is not in the room, send a showcase link instead.

The operator strip

The strip is hidden on a screen unless you ask for it. Open it with any of these:

  • press O (again to hide);
  • hold a finger or the mouse in a top corner for a moment;
  • tap with three fingers on a touch screen;
  • add ?controls=1 to the player link to open it at start.

Esc or ✕ closes it, and it hides by itself after 8 seconds untouched. It speaks the browser's language (German, English or French).

  • Camera on / off — this computer's camera is the screen's; a red Camera badge shows while it runs. Off holds for this tab: hands, presence and the photo booth's camera all stay closed.
  • Calibrate — the calibration wizard; saved, it is the stage's.
  • Show how it sees you (H) — the camera's view in a corner: the hand's points, the face, the comfort zone, and whether someone counts as there.
  • Steering — Move, Tilt or Hybrid, to try here (see hand steering); not saved, the stage keeps its own.
  • Simulator — a pretend visitor instead of the camera (below).
  • Fullscreen and Close.

The presence simulator

Rehearse a visitor without a camera: press Simulator in the strip, or add ?simulate=presence to a player link or the stage preview's address. No camera opens, and a SIMULATED line shows what it pretends. The screen cannot tell it from a real person: presence, the gesture guide, stage rules and sessions behave as on the day.

  • P — someone steps in front / walks away (the stage's arrive and leave delays apply).
  • H — a hand goes up / down; the cursor drifts like a hovering hand.
  • ↑ ↓ — put the cursor on the next / previous thing to choose and hold it there; H lets it drift again.
  • Space — pinch: choose what the cursor is on.
  • ← → — swipe.
  • F — flicker: the face is lost for a moment and found again.
