Cast zones

Let guests share a phone, a laptop, a camera or a video onto a screen — with a code on screen or an operator’s approval — and cut it from the Live board.

A cast zone is a place in a design where a guest’s picture can appear: a laptop’s screen in a meeting room, a phone’s camera at a party, a video someone brought on a stick. The guest scans a QR code, picks what to share and presses Connect. No app and no account.

Add a cast zone

  1. Place the block

In the shot editor, add a Cast zone block where the shared picture should appear, like a presenter block. Put your frame above it if you like.

  2. Give it a picture for when nobody casts

Drop an image on the block. When the stage accepts casts, the zone adds a QR code over it — and, with a code, the address and six digits to type: Scan, or open www.wunderframe.com/cast and enter 372 623.

  3. Turn casting on for the stage

On Venue → Stages, open the stage and choose under Watching and casting → Accept casting into cast zones. Publish the design if your workspace publishes manually.

Who may cast

  • Off — the zone shows its picture only.
  • Presenters only — the session’s presenters: the zone shows the live presenter’s shared screen. See Presenters and sessions.
  • With the code on screen — anyone who can see the screen. The right code puts the cast on at once. The code changes after every cast and after a few wrong tries.
  • With operator approval — anyone with the link may ask. The request waits on the Live board, where an operator previews it and presses Accept or Turn away.

With a code or approval, A cast runs at most … minutes — 15 unless you change it, up to two hours.

Share from a phone or laptop

Scanning the QR code opens this page with the code already filled in. Pick what to share and press Connect.

Scanning the QR code opens this page with the code already filled in. Pick what to share and press Connect.

  1. Scan the code

The phone’s camera opens Share to this screen, with the screen’s name and the code filled in. On a laptop, open the address on the screen and type the code.

  2. Pick what to share

My screen (desktop browsers and Android Chrome), My camera, or My video file. Tick With sound if it has sound. Type your name so the operator knows who it is.

  3. Connect, then start

Press Connect, then Start sharing — the browser asks which screen or camera to share. With approval, the page says it is waiting for the operator.

On the Live board

When any stage accepts casting, the Live board has a Casts panel: requests waiting with Accept and Turn away, live casts with Cut and Mute, an eye to preview any of them, the last few that ended and why, and Copy share link for each screen that accepts casts.

A cast ends when the operator presses Cut, when the guest leaves the page, when its minutes are up, or when the show moves on — a new cue, a take or a session on that stage. Then the zone shows its picture and a fresh code again. Every accepted, cut and muted cast is in the Live board’s log.

A cast plays sound only on stages that play sound, and only when the operator did not mute it. One cast plays per stage at a time. Casts need the screen’s network to allow real-time video — see What IT needs to allow.
